Diamond Education

Diamond Jewelry Grand Rapids, MIFor centuries, diamonds have been used in jewelry for their beauty, durability and ability to prismatically produce all the colors of the rainbow. Diamonds truly are a work of art and it’s no wonder why they are used as a symbol of everlasting love.

Essentially composed of carbon, diamonds form in the earth under extreme pressure and temperature. A cutter (a person who is trained in cutting rough diamonds and transforming them into finished, faceted diamonds) then fashions the diamond so that it can be used in a beautiful piece of jewelry.

GIA’s 4 C’s

Each diamond is unique to itself. This means that there is no diamond that is exactly like another diamond. In the jewelry industry, a system of grading known as the 4Cs is used to assess the value of a diamond. The 4Cs are: Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat weight. The 4Cs are a great tool for diamond assessment, but the 5th “C” is the most important. It is Confidence.

Confidence in purchasing a diamond, confidence in your jeweler and confidence that you are making a well educated decision. At Paul Medawar Fine Jewelry, our well-trained team is committed to helping you choose the perfect diamond for your specific taste and budget. We will also be happy to explain the 4 C’s, or answer any jewelry questions that you may have.
